Am I a Bad Person For Not Caring About the Olympics?

Am I? They've been on for the past two weeks, and to be honest, I haven't followed them at all. I don't think I watched a single event for more than ten minutes.

I know it only comes but once every four years, but I just don't care. Am I unpatriotic for not following and rooting for the Americans?

I was watching the news yesterday, and my brother came down the stairs and changed the channel without even asking. It was the last few minutes of the women's soccer gold medal match. I'd rather have watched Wolf Blitzer talk about how this year's hurricane season could be more active than expected, or even Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Okay, if an American is about to win a gold medal, then I might make an exception and keep on watching swimming, or diving, or volleyball. But not soccer.

But apparently a lot of people feel more strongly about it. Everyone on my Facebook news feed was talking about the women's soccer championship.

I guess what's so appealing about the Olympics to so many people is the global aspect. It involves almost every country, so it has at least some relevance to a citizen of almost anywhere on the planet. Its one time when people from every nation, regardless of the disagreements between the people who lead their nations, can come together in friendly competition.

I'm all for friendship and unity between different countries. I just don't care to follow it when it takes the form of fencing, soccer, and dancing horses in the equestrian parade.

I thought the part where the queen jumped out of the helicopter was pretty funny, though.
This blog is the result of having the morning off of work and not knowing what to do. I don't know what I'll write about, and chances are, the blog will probably end up something like this.

But at least its something to do. I'm a waiter this summer, and in between shifts of apologizing to customers for messing up their orders, its nice to have something productive to do. The best possible outcome will be my private and semi-humourous musings becoming an overnight web sensation and me getting interviews with Anderson Cooper or Wolf Blitzer, or at least getting mentioned by them. The worst, and most likely, outcome is the title of this blog. No one will listen. Its okay. I understand. Sorry for wasting your time. I'll just delete it in a week or so.

Somewhere in between these two possibilities is the good chance that I'll either forget that I even made this, or forget the address of it, and the malnourished, premature brainchild that is this blog will be lost in the vast reaches of the internet.

But in off-hand chance that you find any interest in reading whatever I feel like posting, enjoy.

    Sorry for the horrible website.
